watching the recent thread on PDWA/dual circuit brakes, at the risk of
serious flame, i have to say i can't contain myself any longer-
the mood under the shade tree and in other lbc scientific fora is that PDWA
is another of uncle sam's bad ideas, and a recent posting suggested that
the circuits could simply be separated and the PDWA disabled- i must say, i
have always thought dual circuit brakes were uncle sam's best idea and the
idea of a warning light to suggest a leak in one circuit before
catastrophic failure is also a great idea, especially on cars that are now
up to 27 years old (dual circuit brakes and PDWA first required 1968, i
think) and may never have had brake lines or hoses replaced, may sit all
winter allowing pitting of master and brake cylinders and dessication of
rubber parts
i think mr. mardesich's recent explanation of the centering procedure (by
allowing brake fluid to exit a bleed valve in one or the other circuit, 50%
chance of picking the correct one the first time) is right on and i would
suggest that if you have a new enough car to have a dual circuit system
with PDWA, keep it working, it may save your life and your car
