I wouldn't use plastic, or wood, or even aluminum.
Use the steel ;)
But watch it. Steel from different countries is different.
Do some grinding on any old Brit steel and it's steel.
Do the same grinding on any jap steel and it's like a hot knife thru butter.
Now try chinese steel! You won't believe how soft it is.
Answer this....
How come 40 year old steel screws come out of Brit aluminum gennys and 
starter ears with minimum effort yet try to remove the screws from a jap 
alternator and they are always fused and break off.
Now try it on a Korean alternator! Don't bother, just toss it if you 
need to get inside it.
