We used them in a college class I took last year - takes a little
practice, but fairly easy to use as intended (weld studs on, then bang
with slide hammer to pull a dent).  We had several brands - I don't
think there were any differences.

What we also found them to be GREAT for was shrinking metal.  You just
press the hot end directly on the body panel, bzzt several times in a
spiralling out pattern, and you can "erase" an oilcan type bulge.
