Larry,

What do you want to put in the garage? Just Spits? Or do you want
to also pack in your daily drivers and the assorted usual toys such
as lawn mower, etc.? Do you want to put in a lift? Build a spray
booth? Do restorations or just store cars.

No matter how large you make it, it won't be large enough. When I
bought my house 16 years ago, I had a simple 20x20 garage. This
was a large step down from a 20x38 one. When they put in sewers
and water several years ago, I put up a 27x24 attached to the
house. Now, I am planning on rebuilding my 20x20, and going to
10 foot walls, and a 12/12 pitch roof. I am also planning on
adding dormers so that I can store car parts and out-of-season
yard implements.

The other thing to keep in mind is to check the local building
codes to see what, if any, restrictions there are regarding
size.

BTW, there is another list hosted by team.net called shop-talk.
Check the archives for prior discussions on garages and work-shops.

Hope this helps,

Doug
