Gary,

Congratulations to you and your girlfriend! Sounds like you've got a job ahead
 of you...

If you have little or no knowledge of Spitfires, you really need a workshop
manual. I have the Haynes manual, but others who have the Bentley manual say
its better - a bit pricier, but apparently they appear on Ebay occasionally.
Your other big resource is the Spitfire List! There are a lot of people there
with varying degrees of experience, who not only are willing to help but
positively want to help - we wouldn't be here otherwise. Whatever you are
faced with, there is almost certainly someone on the List who has been there
before and will help you through.

I guess that, being a '73, you have the single Stromberg carb attached (I'm
assuming you're in the USA). I'm in the UK, where all cars had twin SUs (more
power, worse emissions), so I'm afraid I can't help you on your specific carb
questions, but someone in the US may be able to. Also, check out
www.rimmerbros.co.uk - this is a UK parts supplier, and their website contains
many exploded diagrams of parts with part numbers, so you may be able to find
out what it is you need from there.

Speaking of which, get parts lists from all the suppliers you can. Not only is
it good to compare prices, but some of the catalogues have good diagrams to
tell you what parts you need, what goes where, and how they all fit together.
The names I keep hearing people mention for US suppliers are The Roadster
Factory, Victoria British, British Parts North West, Moss, SpitBits, Ted
Schumacher Imported Automotive. The first 4 seem to be the bigger suppliers
with the largest ranges, but people seem to speak very highly of the service
available from the last 2. I cannot comment, I've never used any of them
 myself!

Good luck, and keep coming to the list for both practical and moral support!
