On my '77 1500, I believe the bonnet is symetrical, although I can't
remember for sure. But this is a right-hand-drive with the battery on
the left, so that may make a difference.

On a 1500, there's a logo on the front left of the bonnet (hood), and
one on the rear right of the boot (trunk). Left and right refer to the
side of the car looking from back to front, i.e. the way the driver
would see it if he was sat in his car. The rear one says "Triumph
Spitfire 1500" and the front one says "Spitfire 1500" (although I have
seen some photos where the front one has the word "Triumph" too). They
come in silver or black from any of the big suppliers. I'm not sure
which colour emblem goes with each body colour, but I have the silver
ones on my red car and it looks fine. And I'm with you on the decals
thing, BTW!
