Had a 14.4V DeWalt, beat the crap out of it over five years or so,
worked great. For the first year of our house remodeling project I
stole the in-laws' battery packs and ran the thing through charge after
charge after charge, holesaws, boring bits, down in the dirt in the
crawlspace, no problems. Then I dropped it off a fifteen-foot ladder.
Oops.

Bought a new one (about 18mos ago now), a different design, and it never
felt as good. Case was more flexible, after about 30 days the case
cracked. Took it back.

Decided on a different alternative, bought a very very used Milwaukee
off eBay for $14 + shipping. Looked like crap and it was obviously
well-used but still works great. The clutch is slipping a bit now so
it's time to actually go buy a new one.

The Milwaukees are AEGs, used to be German-made but think they've moved
production to Slovenia or Poland on the basic models and Milwaukee seems
to be building some of the upper-line models in the US now.

John.
