My Ford has a key with a transponder built into it. The transponder has to
be programmed for my car. If you cut a new key, it won't work because the
car can't read it, and the security light blinks to let you know that is the
problem. You may just need a new key.

New keys from the dealer are about $75. Van's Lock Shop (that may be a local
company to me, but other major locksmiths can prolly do this) can also make
the key, but they need TWO master keys to program the new one. Cost is $35.
If you don't have any keys that work, it is a dealer job to reprogram the
system.

I hate this kind of stuff in cars, but the only option is to buy a pre-1968
car!
