The best care and feeding of a taper fit is to keep them clean and free of
chips, grit and grime. I clean mine with a Scotchbrite pad. The external of
course is easy, and the Scotchbrite pad is stiff enough that you can stuff
it in the drill and turn it around and get it pretty clean. If you have had
chip damage to the internal part, you can get an appropriate taper reamer
and re-ream it. As for oil, put in on and wipe it off. Enough will be left.
