        You can get some GFCI *outlets* that allow some daisy chaining.  This
        may solve your shared neutral problem and the half-size breakers.

Putting a GFCI outlet at the head of a string of outlets is a cheap
and workable solution. However, it doesn't allow shared neutral
wiring (split duplex or otherwise), because the GFCI works by comparing
the current flow in the neutral with that in the ground. Sharing the
neutral screws this up.
