My Chevrolet books for '56 say Light Duty are the 3000 series (1/2, 3/4, & 1
ton); Medium Duty are the 4, 5 & 6000 series (1-1/2 & 2 ton) and Heavy Duty
are the 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10,000 series (2-1/2 ton ). Also in '56 a 3800 (1
ton) with dual wheels is rated at 8800 GVW, they still call it Light Duty
and they have 8 lugs.
I wouldn't put to much faith in the American Classic decoder. When I try my
VIN (8C56W) it tells me I have a 1976 and when I try my sons '56 3100
(8A56A) it is also wrong.
What parts are you having trouble with? Let us know and we will try to help
you figure it out. Also don't forget to remind us what year truck you are
working on....some of us have short memories.
