Alexa,

That is a possibility but I have experienced the opposite. By posting on the
web potential members get a free look at the club and our activities. Our
club, a chapter of AHCA, costs $50 to join. Not an insignificant sum. By
offering a free trial version our membership has actually increased. They get
a feel for the club and it's activities without a financial risk. We also
offer a regional Austin Healey Internet Mail List similar to this one. We
sponsor it but you do not need to be a member to join. By doing so we expose
ourselves to potential members and that has helped membership.

A newsletter does not make or break a club. It is the activities and most
importantly the leadership who make new members feel welcome and invited to
contribute.

I am careful about privacy on the Internet version. For example I do not
include the club roster in the Internet version.

Every club is different. Ours is more local and part of a National Club so
both have benefits.

Jim Werner
