Robert, the wire wheel axle housing is 1.5 inches narrower than the
steel wheel axle housing.  As a result if you install the axle shafts
and hubs from the steel wheel car into the wire wheel car it will have a
narrower track and the inside of your tires will likely rub the axle
bump stop 'protuberance'.  It would be best to swap the entire axle
housing.

Been there, done that.
