John,

There was an article in the GM mag sent to Corvette folks in 1997
about the fact that vettes come with Mobil-1 from the factory and
the break-in issue.  According to that article, Mobil-1 has an
additive that allows it to be used in break-in situations.  Some other
synthitic oils also can be used, but some should not be used.
The article did not list the which of the other syn. were
OK and which were not for break-in.

One would be 'safe' with dino oil for break-in and syn. after that.
For the "D" motor I am building, I plan to put Mobil-1 in from day
one and do not anticipate any problems.
