There are industries in countries which have not converted because =
American Industries were the primary suppliers to the world, such as =
Airconditioning. Still today parts for new AC systems are made in =
inches such as copper tubing and the fittings and other items because =
they have to fit the compressors and evaporators which are also still in =
inches or Imperial measurements. No maker of AC systems wants to make =
a system that cannot be repaired because the correct parts are not =
available.=20

=20

There are a few exceptions such as Mini Split AC units. These were =
developed for the small homes in Japan and are all metric. The have =
become popular worldwide and those units are not made in the USA nor are =
the parts. The Chinese are the prime supplier today with Japanese =
brands.

The odd thing is that in many countries that have converted there are =
some really strange exceptions.=20

In Canada the construction industry, including I believe HVAC still uses =
imperial.

In the UK road distances are in miles but fuel is dispensed in litres =
making fuel economy calculations a tad odd!

Of course now here in Canada, as in most of the civilized world, fuel =
economy is expressed in litres per 100 km which to someone of my age is =
a bit confusing because "more is worse" rather than "more is better" as =
it was in MPG.=20
