Bob, thanks for the valuable input.=C2=A0 It sounds like your thoughts are=
very similar to mine.=C2=A0 One option is for me to cannibalize the car fo=
r the other TR6-based vehicles (my 73 street car, the 2000 Mk. 1 sedan, a H=
unter kit car, and a Jamaican kit car), but it turned out quite nicely (I w=
as lucky enough to start with a fairly solid pile of "bitsa") and I hate to=
do that after 5 years building and prepping the car.
The VDCA rules sound quite reasonable, and I don't think it would be too di=
fficult to find four suitable fenders.=C2=A0 I originally got the engine ru=
nning on a set of 175 CDs anyway, so they are sitting there ready to go.=C2=
=A0 Honestly, I'm not that worried about being "competitive", just would li=
ke to not be the slowest car on track by 5 seconds a lap (Lucky Dog experie=
nce last fall).=C2=A0 Heck, she's (her name is Lacey) set up to run on regu=
lar unleaded as it's darned expensive to run premium all weekend!=C2=A0=C2=
=A0
Thanks again, friends, and I'll keep all informed.=C2=A0 Chuck has been kin=
d enough to invite Cristina and me to the VDCA event coming up at the end o=
f March, so we're planning on coming up on the Saturday to check things out=
.
To be honest...I'm excited!

We were at a crossroads with our ChampCar TR6 as well. It did its job and b=
y my count it helped 6 drivers make the decision to get involved with vinta=
ge racing. As time went on we made the car faster by adding fuel injection =
and aero and raced with experienced=C2=A0drivers to great effect. Everyone =
had a great time but their focus was on their vintage car and last year we =
did not have enough of us older drivers to make a ChampCar entry work. The =
car sat all year but still starts right up!=C2=A0 This year, we gave it one=
last try at getting enough drivers and we have a group of younger drivers =
and a couple of new drivers, so we have three races planned. The fact that =
COTA is turning itself into a private, high dollar, membership only club, a=
nd there is one last ChampCar race there in December gave people the impetu=
s to sign up. After=C2=A0that,I think the end is near for my ChampCar progr=
am.=C2=A0 =C2=A0
Here's what I know.=C2=A0 My Texas club recently updated=C2=A0our rules and=
added classes for 1985 cars. Other clubs have rules with cut off years tha=
t vary, but the reality of shrinking grids has hit vintage racing clubs and=
soon most will accept more modern cars. In the 1985 SCCA GCR and PCS car w=
eights are reduced and fiberglass panels are allowable. Modern Fuel injecti=
on is clearly out, because almost all rules are based on the concept of "pe=
riod correct".=C2=A0 Triumph's fuel injection is allowed. The TR6 has a cou=
ple of build options, in Former CP, GT2C and former DP in GT3D. The PCS rul=
es are almost identical but the car weight is substantially higher for GT3D=
. You'll want to ditch the bumpers and upgrade the camshaft and valve train=
, and most clubs want a period looking paint job. You can run dual SU's or =
Strombergs in GT3D, but you'll want Webers for GT2C.

My car would need a lot of work for a vintage conversion, mostly because th=
e bones are so bad. The body is very rough under the panels and the floors =
are literally road signs. It worked for Lemon's, WRL, and Chump/Champ, but =
the driveline is top notch. I'm not sure what I am going to do with it goin=
g forward but after this year I will make a decision. I may pull it apart a=
nd move the driveline into a street car.
