Dave,

Another solution that some folks have used is bit more
hi-tech, but also works well.

There are several Marine CD Players made which have a
digital, wired remote.

So, you can mount the head unit in the trunk or glove
box and then simply route the digital, wired display
unit (with controls) into the cockpit Area.

This might be a nice option to use in your roadster.
