Have you verified for sure that this is vaporlock. I had a mysterious problem
for several years like this. It turned out that there were little strips of
debris floating around in my gas tank that would intermittently block the pick
up sometimes completely, or sometimes just a little.

The idea of an electric fuel pump and a fan are great. I have an electric one
hooked up and ready to go if the mechanical ever gives me any problems. The fan
does make a huge difference in terms of keeping the engine compartment cool
after stopping or while driving. I have my fan set to come on at 185, but I
also have a manual switch that allows me to turn it on at any time. I think the
fan really helps with some of the heat damage that use to happen to my
alternator and starter.
