FLEXIBILITY.
If you're running vacuum advance, the base plate moves. The wire
you refer to must be very flexible in order to not impede smooth
movement.
If you have solexes and aren't using the vacuum line, you'll be
fine, though down the line someone will shake their head
and mutter "What was the PO thinking????"
