I built ones for my 1966 brake and for my master cylinder, both from angle
construction brackets (like for foundation or post supports) I bought at Home
Depot (thick galvanized steel). I made a pattern in cardboard first and
transferred it to the steel, cut it with a power jig saw slowly. I recommend
keeping a portion on the bend in the bracket to nest against the flange in
the firewall, adds strength and flex resistance. They fit against the
firewall in the engine compartment, and are held in place by the same bolts
that hold the brake and clutch cylinders in place.
And by the way, my brake and clutch both showed lots of flexing and the
clutch part of the firewall cracked in my 1966 1600 10 or 15 years ago. The
bracket stopped the flexing, but they ain't pretty.
