This may not be possible in your state, but I run "Vintage" plates - actual
antique 1967 plates on my roadster. In Va, you can use these "vintage"
plates with an inspection sticker and normal registration, with no unusual
restrictions, or you may run without inspection, and a small fee (like $5
every 5 years) provided: you only drive to/from an enthusiast event, to/from
a repair shop, or for test driving purposes. I have mine registered the
latter way, since I don't often drive it except to/from autocrosses...of
course, I could legally drive it much more often - for testing purposes ;-)
