I'm trying to make a fairly simple decorative plastic piece for the
snake. I created a mold from the original part and have even made a few
attempts at casting. The resulting pieces haven't been perfect, but
with a little sanding and polishing would probably be okay. The problem
is that the pieces never fully hardened. I've been using a clear, so
called, molding plastic I bought at TAP Plastics. I've followed the
instructions specifying the amount of harder to to the letter. That
didn't work. I've tried adding up to twice as much as called for and
less than called for, but the results were the same. The surface
remains tacky enough to easily leave finger print impressions, even
after weeks of curing. For the heck of it I tried painting the surface
of one of these pieces with pure hardener. That only seem to make it
worse. A while back I tried molded a piece from fiberglass epoxy resin.
Shape-wise it came out pretty good, and it was fully cured within a day
or so, but it had lots of bubbles in it and was yellowish in color,
making it unacceptable.

So, I'm either using the wrong stuff, or my technique is off. If any of
you have experience doing this sort of thing, I would appreciate your
insight. And/or if anyone can recommend a good source of information,
that would be appreciated too.

Thanks,

Roland
