I lusted after a Singer when I was in high school, mainly because a good
used one cost 1/2 to 1/3 as much as a TD (which is what I REALLY
wanted). But I could never convince my dad that a Singer was the car
for me. He wouldn't even go for the Morris Minor I was willing to
settle for. I finally ended up with a '48 Ford 4-door sedan. He always
had been a "Ford" man; still is to this day, and the old flathead was
his idea of what a high schooler should be driving.
For two years running now the same green Singer 4-seater has been parked
next to the snake in the misc section at the Palo Alto All British Car
Meet. Brings back a lot of old memories.
