I have been working on my 80' MGB for several years now, having progressed to
the point where it no longer bottoms out over bumps, steers where I point it,
starts, runs, stays running, stays cool, stops, can be driven at night, can
be driven more then ten miles out and back, and passes emissions (with some
coaxing). The engine is strong, oil pressure good, 64,000 original miles,
interior good (except carpet), transmission OK (third gear whines a bit), top
bad, fun to drive, wife loves it and now the problem.

The body is well used, the sills on the drivers side are gone, the left rear
fender was "kissed" at some point, and the boot lid was closed by a gorilla
with the lid stay in full erection. A local body shop (who knows MGs well)
is offering to put everything back in order for $4K. I might be able to
bring this down if I strip the car and let him work on it over the winter.

My logic says that there is no way to recoupe any of this cost, my emotions
say "this could be interesting." What is the general reaction? Once again
I look to the net to catch an answer!

Thanks.
