I have to say there is a posibility I haven't seen posted yet. (I _am_ behind
though)

It's possible your cam timing is off. If your cam is opening your valves too 
late, it could be reversion: when the piston rises in the bore forcing the
charge back out the open intake valve. This is not that uncommon, and could 
also explain your lack of power.

Hope it's simpler than that...

P.S. Reversion is also caused by out-of-phase resonance, I've heard some
     short rod-ratio engines do this at high RPMs.
