This is not strictly true! I have cleaned up the solenoid internals on the 
TR7 (Dolly Sprints, 1850s, etc.) a number of times, but have to admit that 
Lucas don't make it easy. They epoxy over the phillips retaining screws. 
But after removing the crap and desoldering 2 wires, the black cap comes 
off and the contacts are as large as life, ready to be emeried. 

Given that Lucas make it so hard to remove the solenoid cover, I find it 
hard to beleive that they supply new covers (with contacts) for 11 pounds 
(c.f. 20 pounds for a non-Lucas solenoid). I last bought a new cover 4 
years ago, so they may now be obsolete or more expensive.
