Folks, I have a subject I would like discussed and hopefully to come to 
resolution on.

The question is the status of commercial groups on this mail list.  I know that 
traditionally, it has been against "internet rules" to have companys offer 
things for sale or to even talk about things they offer for sale.

Times are a changing, and we are a mailgroup and may not be subjected to 
notesfile "rules".  There are now commercial companys with servers on line that 
you can "visit" brouse, and purchase things with your credit card.  These 
virtual stores are internet accessable.  Also, since we are a mail group and not
a public notesfile, I suggest that as such we can make up our own rules.

With that in mind... The Roadster Factory has been a model internet citizen and 
has not commented on things they have for sale and have been esentually list 
lurkers.  I chatted with someone from TRF lately and he indicated that they 
download our stuff and pass it around within the company but do not reply 
because they are a commercial outfit and do not want to get anyone upset.

Personally, I would like to see us as a group extend an invitation to The 
Roadster Factory, and any other parts house or garage to fully participate in 
the discussions.  

By this I mean:

Participate in technical discussions;

Be able to tell people what the correct part(s) is for something and if it is 
available;

Let people know about special promotions or if a new part becomes available that
has previously unavailable.

I know my request about TR3 rear bulkhead replacement boards could have used 
their insight about what was available through commercial sources.  When someone
asks about a source for SU rebushing, TRF could say that they do it.  I think 
they can add significantly to some of the discussions if they are in a mind to 
participate.  Maybe Charles could get a direct internet account.  Maybe we could
get Moss and Victoria British & others on board so they can understand how 
customers feel about their parts & service.


What do people think? should we allow commercial companys to fully particip[ate,
even though to really do so they need to talk about things they have for sale?

I would dearly like easy access to these company's technical departments and to 
be able to provide real time feedback about parts and service.

Comments?  Agreements? disagreements?
