Well, if you're stopping in Salinas don't leave out
Gilroy, the garlic capital of the world. You can
get garlic wreaths, garlic wine, garlic mustard,
garlic jam, garlic soap, garlic cookbooks,
and maybe a look at the Garlic Queen if the
Garlic Festival is on. Garlic wine is great to cook with.

I have made this trip a few times in my Spit. Once I drove
through a flood in Huntington Beach on my way up and lost
my alternator. Periodic battery charges were
necessary. I never took a whole cache of tools, and
I have never been in a situation where they would
have been useful (unless full wave rectifiers can be
thought of as part of a standard cache of tools).

Have lots of fun!
