I've made that trip (well as far as L.A.) many times when a student.
Even had to be towed 100 miles one time. (It was NOT an LBC -- was
a LFC (little French convertable.)
Your timing (two stops) seems fine. How about Carmel (having spent
a very leisurely time going through big Sur or even detouring north
to the redwoods) and then winding along the coast? Then maybe, oh
Santa Barbara or San Simeon (if you haven't seen Hurst castle.)
At any rate, from there south it gets hot and boring until you're
well South of L.A. The whole trip is about 600 miles, I think.
Things to look out for: check the wheels for signs of heating when
you stop. I almost lost a front wheel on my Midget after about
650 straight miles of happy motoring.
Things to take: (other than the obvious) 1) Duct tape! A couple
of wraps will hold that busted hose. 2) Wire. Enough to jumper
around and useful for making tests. 3) Make a habit of saving
the old bits when you tune up. An old spark plug or set of
points will probably get you off the road and you already know
they fit! 4) Your AAA card! Sometimes the poor guy with the
truck "used to race these things" or whatever. At any rate,
they can usually tow you with either the flatbed or wheel
cup type of rig.
Enjoy. Take a smile. You'll do fine. Besides, you've already
done the best thing: allow plenty of time to enjoy the ride and
any "adventures" that come your way.
