Yes, I ran into this on the '64 MG midget that my brother once owned.
The car had an electric fuel pump, but the 1098 cc block had a hole in
the side of it for a mechanical fuel pump. The previous owner had
fabricated a small plate that bolted over the hole, but it was
kinda flimsy and tended to leak a lot. I think this was a holdover
on the Austin Healy Sprite. The bugeyes all had mecanical pumps,
where MG always used electrics. From 64 on, the Sprites and the Midgets
were supposed to be the same, but obviously some of these 1098 cc
engines were built for mechanical fuel pumps.
