I think more important than "car feel" is having the
ability to change what isn't working into something
that does. In Charlie's list of drivers, they all have
completely different driving styles. Not only that,
each run for each driver will be different than the
previous one. Suppose all were in the same class.
Barry's first run is a 56.1, and then Jeff does a
55.8. Now Barry has to change something. Then Rich
does a 54.7. Now they all have to change something.

Autocross is mental. Talent is a subjective term, and
so is car feel. What favors are you giving yourself by
putting yourself into a box? 

All of our movements are habits. You can't lose a
habit. You can only replace it with a new one. If you
really want to succeed in autocross, beyond developing
basic driving skills you should also develop an
ability to change. You have no control over what your
competitors do.
