If you're nervous about instructing, I gleaned some good information at the
pool this morning regarding this very topic.

The positive to constructive criticism ratio must be 5:1.

This is correct. For every piece of constructive criticism you offer, you must
included FIVE things that your student is doing well.

This was all researched through Stanford University, and unfortunately, I
cannot remember the name of the website that presents this information, but I
consider this good stuff to know. I thought maybe it was 1:1, or 2:1, but 5:1?
All I can say is, if I were a student, I'd feel really good about that. When
you feel good about what you're doing, you're more receptive to making changes
to make yourself do even better.

We were actually talking about swim coaches, and what works best for swimmer,
but I can't see why this wouldn't work for anything else.

See, I can talk about autocross, too. Neener neener.
