For some reason this was sent to me rather than autox@autox.team.net.

Here's the dilemma for Corvette nuts. The SEB wants to see some high
participation numbers in AS to justify keeping the class the way it is.
But the Vette drivers have this huge sword hanging over their heads
(placed there by the same SEB) with the threat of whacking away with it
by putting RX7s or Boxter Ss or S2000s in the class.

Let's say you would really like to purchase a nice C4 Vette to run in AS.
Would you do it and spend the development dollars with the full knowledge
that the SEB is strongly considering swinging that sword next year? Not
me. Now, if said Vette nut already has the C4 in his garage and it is
already set up, yeah, bring it out and have fun for the one year. 2002 is
probably a good year to do it.

The problem is that C4 drivers have been converting their cars to BSP or
selling their cars over the last 5-6 years because they weren't
competitive in SS anymore. If the SEB had reshuffled the classes a few
years ago, more of the C4s would be out there in good hands, today.

Why not make AS the ES of the big cars. Make it an old car (affordable)
class. Stay with it and see what develops in the long run.
