Pat,

Bilstein makes very good shocks. However, their advertising leaves a little
to be desired:-)

All (modern) shocks are "automatically adjustable" since they are designed
to be velocity (shaft velocity, not car speed) sensitive. In addition,
there are all sorts of internal parts that do different things at different
shaft speeds in any shock. You can send Bilsteins back to Bilstein's US
facility in Southern Calif or to an independent company (shocktek
www.hotshox.com ) for repair, revalving, etc. at prices MUCH lower than
even the cheapest good Koni.

That said, if you are looking at a car with a good set of Bilsteins already
on it, don't let that "bother" you. Several of us have done fairly well in
CM with OEM or similar Bilsteins. (Last I heard, Peter Calhoun still has
Bilsteins). I had Bilsteins until the 2000 season. You can buy a lot of
fresh tires for the price of new shocks.
