You need to pull the speedometer drive gear out.  Usually the
easiest way to do that is put the cable back on so you can pry
against the edge of the 'nut' with a screwdriver.  Without the cable
there isn't really an easy way to get a grip on it to pull it out.
And while you've got it out, I'll suggest you replace the o ring.
