It occurs to me that you can remove the rear trim panel in the
passenger compartment, and then remove the bolts holding the rear deck
lid hinges to the body. This will permit the lid to be moved a small
amount fore and aft, as well as some limited tipping and rotating. Might
be enough to free the latch, yes?

The latch mechanism engages what is essentially a j-bolt on the trunk
lid. This may have rotated a bit, keeping the latch from being able to
open. Have you tried jiggling the trunk lid around horizontally?
There's
a fair bit of "slop" in the hinges on mine. If the upper catch has
rotated, horizontal finesse might help.
