Jim, the Miata (aka MX5) seats, at least from the mid-90's era fit quite
well in the TR6. They are physically the right size, come in fabric and
sometimes leather, have speakers in the headrests (that need replacing)
and slide much better than the originals ever did.

They do need a few mods to remove some extraneous bits from the Miata
runners (trivial, 5 mins with a hacksaw) and special brackets
made/purchased to allow the seats to be fixed to the TR6 floor (more
complex especially if you want to bolt into the original captive nuts).

You can see the final project on my TR6 here:

This company is said to sell mounting brackets as described in one of
the TR restoration books

This site describes the whole story for Miata seats in a spitfire but
has great pictures and was the inspiration for my own installation.

Listers,

After looking through the archive, I almost hate to bring
this up. My son's 73 needs a seat rebuild/rejuvination
pretty bad. As he wants to change the color from black to
dark tan it is going to be an expensive and time consuming
project.

We're friends with an owner of a stripping yard that can
provide some inexpensively. What are the problems and
pitfalls? Anyone got any pictures or details on the web?

TIA,
Jim Farris
