In fact, both eBay and PayPal (owned by eBay) have acknowledged significant
security problems with "phishing" scams. Ususally, the perpetrators of these
scams will state in an email that there is a security or other problem and
will ask unsuspecting potential victims to click on a link to an official
looking bogus webpage that will ask for your eBay or PayPal id and password.

Take Don Malling's advice and delete any email that doesn't use the eBay web
page (www.ebay.com) as an intermediary

FWIW, I delete any email from paypal or eBay. Don't even look at it anymore.
It would surprise me if
anyone at eBay or paypal would think their customers would open an email
from them considering all
the scamming that goes on with it.
