Bob,

You are correct, I probably dont need to replace it once a year.  It 
may be the hose I am buying is less rigid then the original.  After the 
first year where the hose ends connected wasnt as tight as I would have 
liked so I decided to replace it.  I havent inspected it closely this 
year.  When I do, if it is fine I will leave it.  But as I recall it 
was only a couple bucks for the hose so while I was doing other work I 
splurged and replaced it for peace of mind.

You replace the hose once a year? Wow. That seems excessive given that 
the
hose only has to hold a vacuum...
