Hugh,
Before assuming that the tank has a leak, make sure you check the gasket on
the fuel level sender. When these get old, they leak. Since it is in the top
of the tank, the leaks only occur when the tank is full (like yours).
To check this, pull off the backer board in the trunk and look around the
sending unit for signs of leakage. On my 250, it leaked into the well for
the spare tire after removing a tar-based material from around the tank.
Nice mess to clean-up but it made tracing the problem pretty easy.
