first off i want to thank everyone who gave me input regarding electronic
ignition conversions. i have been busy moving and have been out of town in the
past few weeks and havent touched the distributor. i am going to have the dwell
checked and then possibly install the pertronix or ignitor elect. ign. if need
be.

regarding my clutch, well lets just say i am having a chronic disengagement
problem and/or a mechanic who can't figure out how to fix it.
the first time i had trouble with it, he diagnosed it as having a broken fork
pin. to fix this, he did something i know a lot of you will scowl at, but i
trusted his jusdgement at the time - he welded the fork to the shaft. since i
had recently bought the car and didn't know how old the clutch
plate/flywheel/bearing ass'y was, and the tranny was out, i had those paarts
replaced too. the clutch worked great for about 1000 miles, then i started
having trouble getting into 1st gear and reverse.
i brought my car back and he said that the flywheel was defective and that a
tooth had chipped off and gotten lodged btwn the clutch plate and the flywheel.
i was a bit skeptical but since he would replace the entire ass'y free of
charge, i thought ok, i can trust this guy. not more than 700 miles later i
stared having disengagement problems again. took it back, he told me he "made
some adjustments, other than that it works fine" (at no charge) and it worked
well for about another 500-600 miles. again, it was hard to get into first, and
grinding when trying to engage reverse. when i took it back the fourth time, he
told me that he bled the system and replaced the clevis pin (which he said was
really worn) at no charge. i asked him what was going on with my clutch and all
he said was "something's not right" and that if i started having problems again
that i can bring it back. it has been about another 500 miles and i am starting
to have the same symptoms again.
can anyone give me any help on this? i recall someone posteing about the bleed
valve position or something before? if it is not something that i can check or
fix, i am going to take it in to a different mechanic, a jaguar specialist, and
hope that he can make it right. i am not ready to tackle dropping the tranny
myself if that's what needs to be done.
thanks,
