Well folks, I tried to turn the crankshaft pulley, but it would not wiggle. T=
hat was encouraging. Then I inserted the starting crank and turned it. Every=
thing felt normal. That was encouraging. Then I pulled the pulley forward lo=
ngitudinally, by inserting a screwdriver between the pulley and the timing c=
over. It easily moved about 1/8 inch forward. That was disturbing. So I gues=
s I have a broken crankshaft, correct?
At least I have the Magnette running.

drive it slowly a few hundred feet to a safe spot off the highway. The=
engine has never been rebuilt to my knowledge, but who knows its history? I
have owned it about 15 years. It has always run fine, although not super pep=

If it proves to be a bearing, does one just fix the offending bearing, or is=

a sign that everything is about to need redoing?<br>
