John:

SVRA has no ban on wood rimmed wheels as long as they have a metal rim that
goes all the way around to which they wood is laminated. The wheel that caused
the fatality had only metal spokes and unsupported wood around the rim.

To all who have wood steering wheels; check and see if the metal goes 360
degrees around the perimeter. If it doesn't, they can be a splinter hazard if
the rim breaks.
