There is  a locking collar provided with the HVDA kit that prevents the  
spline  from travel when installed with the Toyota tranny.  It actually   
locks the 
spline in place, and is needed. 
 
the original question did not reference an HVDA kit

 
 
Indeed,  However, look at his earlier post.  He is installing an  HVDA kit 
and is asking about the locking collar.
