Marc,

I can see how skimming the head would move the adjustment screws closer to
the rocker cover (although I'm amazed to learn that the screw/cover
clearance is that tight on a 6-cyl Triumph).

But I fail to see how shimming the rocker pedestals can move the screws
farther away from the cover.  Surely the height of the pushrod plus
adjustment screw remains the same, regardless of where the rocker is
positioned along the length of the adjustment ?

Plus shimming the pedestals will upset the rocker/valve geometry, possibly
leading to more rapid valve guide wear.

If the adjustment screw hitting the cover is indeed the problem, then I'd
suggest either shortening the screw, or finding the right one.
