I have done this under the carpets in the TR6 and the TR8. I have never
tried this under the metal, however. But the Spitfire has an insulating
blanket
inder the transmission cover and as I recall it is fully encapsulated with a
plastic sheet to prevent it getting soaked in water or oil. If the insulation
gets soaked it becomes less effective as insulation.
And as mentioned before, put them in in a manner that will allow you to
remove them when they get wet. I said when, not if. Sooner or later it will
happen.
