A couple of data points here.
The Porsche 914 ( 70 to 76, all have hidden headlights) had clear turnsignal
lenses for Italy and a extra light bulb to illuminate the bottom half. The
Euro spec cars had amber on top for the turnsignal then the bottom half was
clear for the extra bulb. USA spec cars had a full amber lense and no extra
bulb, though the L/R split parking lights still worked from the turnsignal
switch.
Pre ~ 66 VW bugs with glass covered headlights ( still sealed beam for USA)
had a extra parking lamp bulb between the main light and glass cover.
60's Mercedes sedans with quad stacked headlights ( probably 280 series and
up) had triangular clear lenses between the top and bottom headlights.
