I'm not sure exactly what this part of the circuit looks like on a GT 6, but
I'll bet it's got something to do with the contact on the starter solenoid
that normally shorts out the ballast resistor while cranking. Try just
pulling the wire off the solenoid, and see if that makes a difference.
