The discussion of kerosene heaters has reminded me of an issue with mine. I
have a mid-size
unit (from Sears) (horizontal type) and It was not running well at all.
Apparently there is a pressure adjustment. The
instructions say to turn a scrfew until the proper pressure is reached. I have
a pressure gauge which reads the
pressure, and I can set the pressure.
However, when the pressure is set to the "correct setting", then the metal
baffle in the front of the machine (where
the hot air exhausts) glows cherry red. Is this supposed to run this hot? If
I turn down the pressure, the baffle is not
so hot, but the smell of kerosene is pretty gross. I did not run it at the
"red" setting long enough to tell if there is
less of a stink.
Does anybody have experience with these things and the proper color of the
baffle?
