...there does seem to be a 'dis-incentive' for folks to drive their
'less-than-show' quality cars to Meets and I agree it would be great to see
more as well !... in fact I spent alot of time checking out the very few
'daily-drivers' and beat up TRs as well as the 'show-stopper' ones at the
last 'Triumphfest' in Pleasanton CA last Summer.

Why not let the 'rough' cars in for Free or at least a discounted price?
These owners don't have the same high incentive of pride built up yet, or the
same strong desire to show their efforts off, as the people with their
beautiful finished cars do. Maybe there could be a section for the 'works in
progress' and daily beaters.

Folks that have toiled hard and spent lots of time and money restoring their
cars have a lot of motivation to share their hard work with others and get
the praise and compliments they so deserve. The guy with a
'show-car-wanna-be' or just a daily driver probably doesn't have as much
funds, time, or investment in their car hobby so perhaps a little more
incentive (like a price break) would be encouragement enough and let them
know - they are wanted - not to be ridiculed - but to share in the common
bond we all have with these cars - love of the lbc. And there is something to
be said for the people who rely (and maintain) their TR as their sole
transportation! (resilience is a word that comes to mind when I think about
driving mine daily for the first 8 years)

Personally, as much as I'd like to see a hundred perfect TR4s (wish it could
be so) if I see too many pristine ones I might start to go numb! - it helps
to see a range of conditions - starting with my TR4, of course, currently
holding the rock bottom position!

I would like to start a discussion that gets more people to participate in
events. It seems that I see fewer and fewer less than perfect cars at
shows, meetings, and driving events and I would like to try to encourage
owners with these cars to attend. Sure it's wonderful to see all the
restored cars, but the real fun of an event is talking with and helping
those who are either in the process of restoring or just plain like to
drive their car in whatever condition it is. I have talked with many people
who
don't want to take their cars to an event because they are sure they will
be ridiculed, and that is sad because they usually never are! It's great to
see cars in any condition at events ...>>
